Teri Martin is a veteran member of HSST who was Vice-President for several years before accepting the position of President. Local residents may know her better as a volunteer EMT who served the community for three decades and as a friendly voice answering 911 calls.
What many may not know, however, is that Teri is also a life-long history buff and passionate genealogist with decades of experience. She moved to Stillwater with her young family in 1983 and began her local research. Determined to instill in her children a passion for their country’s past and respect for those who came before us, Teri surrounded them with history and local folklore. On vacations they visited historic sites and old cemeteries. The family even moved into an old house on Stillwater Road that had been an 1800’s shoe shop built by members of the legendary Shafer family. Later it became the home of several generations of the prominent family of Lawrence Earl whose members continue to watch over her to this day.
An unrelenting worker bee, Teri has digitized a treasure trove of 38,000 documents for the genealogy archives of HSST which include files on more than 200 families in Sussex County. Few historical societies can boast of such an accessible stockpile of local materials. HSST will surely benefit from Teri’s knowledge, experience and dedication during her tenure as President.

HSST would also like to thank our departing President Deborah Drumm for her benevolent leadership during the past three years. HSST made significant progress under her direction despite the challenges presented by the COVID pandemic. We will continue to enjoy Deborah’s contagious enthusiasm and vivacious spirit in her new role as Vice President. She has already begun making plans for the Fall Festival which she first launched in 2006.
